Insurance and Policy Types:
Car insurance
protects you against liability in the event of accidents caused
by yourself and/or third parties.
Why do I need
motor insurance?
Every motorist needs at least third party motor insurance to make sure financial
compensation is available to cover any injuries caused to other people or damage
to other people's property.
Third party
and/or with fire and theft covers:
Loss of, theft
or damage to your car.
Third party fire and theft car insurance cover applies for loss or damage caused
directly by fire, lightening, explosion, theft or attempted theft.
Pay for your
car to be repaired;
Replace your car; or
Pay you a cash amount equal to the loss or damage
Comprehensive cover:
The most inclusive
type of UK car insurance policies, offering extra cover for windscreen
damage, car audio equipment, personal belongings and personal
accident cover. Fully comprehensive insurance policies will help
you if you cause accidental damage to your own car as well as
provide cover for loss or damage to personal possessions up to
a pre-determined limit. Usually you will also be covered for
medical expenses up to a specified amount and personal accident
cover will pay out benefits if the policyholder is killed or
disabled in a car accident.
As insurance
is priced according to the likelihood of the driver making a
claim, a lot of information can be asked for when applying for
insurance. Commonly, this will include:
The vehicle
details;
What the vehicle will be used for;
Where the vehicle will be kept;
The ages and occupations of the people who will be driving the vehicle;
Any penalty points on your licence or convictions for driving offences;
Any no-claims bonus and how long you have been driving for; and
Any recent insurance claims.
